Volunteers from the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church are gearing up for the Okotoks Food Bank Food Drive this Saturday.

Sheila Hughes, Executive Director for the Okotoks Food Bank, says this food drive is crucial as they head into their busy season.

"This is our third annual community food drive. It's a really important food drive as we gear up for the busy Fall and Christmas season," she said.

Volunteers dropped off plastic bags, which can be filled with donations and set out on doorsteps by 9:30 am Saturday morning.

Hughes says their partnership with the church and the generosity of residents helps so much at this time of year.

"It's a really crucial drive for us, and we appreciate the support that we get through it," she said.

Hughes says any donation is greatly appreciated, and there are suggestions on the plastic bags provided, as well as a detailed list of items they are low on at the Food Bank's website at www.okotoksfoodbank.ca.

She says they are looking for in-date, unopened food, in addition to lunch items, personal care and baby items, cleaning supplies and canned goods, rice and sugar.
