22 responses came the way of the Okotoks Fire Department last week covering a number of aspects but more importantly less grass fires to deal with unlike weeks prior.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says they just had one small grass fire in the highlights of his fire report.

"We had a grass fire we attended, attended a fire pit complaint, we had four motor vehicle accidents, public hazards we attended to two gas leaks, we had a small one locked in a vehicle by accident and we had four medical responses," he says.

With some moisture expected in the next couple of weeks Thevenot says that will help the grass fire situation but also believes many citizens are properly disposing of smoking materials or just simply not starting any type of fire due to the dry conditions.

"We had a few scares there so I'm hoping people are taking note and then with the fire bans on in the M.D. that has helped for sure and again I think people are starting to be more aware of it and hopefully it's starting to green up a bit."

Another positive as the Fire Department gets set for it's first quarter review, they're down in the number of calls from 2015 to 2016.

"We're at 246 calls right now we were at about 302 so it's a difference of 56 calls that we're down from last year which is a good thing."

Thevenot reminds citizens that the Fire Department will have a booth set-up at the Trade & Lifestyle Show this weekend where they can up for the Town's emergency alert system.
