Even with the numerous grass fires sparking up up in the area, the Okotoks Fire Department still had their hands full with a variety calls this past week.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says they were kept busy with 20 calls that didn't include the most recent fires.

"We had a couple of alarm system activations, two gas leaks, we had six medical responses, one mutual aid assistance into the M.D., two chemical spills to clean up and then four motor vehicle accidents we attended to," he says.

Thevenot says his crew has been working along with the M.D. fire department on most grass fire calls so far this year.

"The first one we attended to was just by 48th street south of the big rock, it started close to the road. Appears that the fire spread to about 20 acres in size and it was just into grass and pasture land and there was no damage to other materials."

Thevenot reminds residents to dispose of their smoking materials in a safe and proper manner as the dry conditions are still to create a grass fire very high.

There is a complete fire ban in effect for the M.D. of Foothills.
