It was quiet month in January, but a busy finale to the month for the Okotoks Fire Department.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says the department was on the move with plenty of calls.

"We had 17 responses, out of those we had six alarm system activations, we had also eight medical responses we assisted with. We attended a small fire and two vehicle accidents," he says.

Heading into February the department is down in calls from this point last year according to Thevenot.

"We've responded to 74 calls to date and last year we were at 87 so we're still below last year's numbers. It has been quiet for us in January."

Thevenot reminds all residents that this week is Burn Awareness Week for the department and says don't let the title of the week fool you or your children at home.

"Hot liquids are the leading cause among burn injuries among young children, and in Canada last year there was approximately 9,000 children that had visited hospital emergency rooms for burn treatments."
