The Third Annual Okotoks Female Hockey Development Camp was a go this week, down at the Pason Centennial Arena in Okotoks.

The goal of this camp is to get girls passionate about hockey, get them onto the ice, and give them a chance to brush up on their skills.

Girls of all skill levels are encouraged to enroll in the camp. The Novice and Atom players take part in a half day camp, and the Peewee, Bantam, and Midget players take part in a full day camp.

Each day of the week, the girls work on dryland training, learn about nutrition, sports psychology, chalk talk, and then lace up and hit the ice for skills drills.

Jennifer Dustow, with Okotoks Female Hockey Development, says "the week is about empowering female athletes".

For the past three years the camp has partnered up with Olympian, Meaghan Mikkelson, to coach and train the girls on the ice. "It's a great experience for the girls", Dustow says.

Planning is in the works for the 2017 camp, and with that leading up to an Olympic year, Mikkelson says "it will be an exciting year for us".
