A local woman has gifted her family of six with triplets.

On March 30th at Rockyview Hospital, Jonathen and Alana Diaz of Okotoks welcomed Cristiano, Ivy and Livia to their big and loving family.

Mother of seven, Alana Diaz says they couldn't believe it when the doctor told her she had three on the way.

"At first when we thought it was twins we had happy tears because we would have had this one and one more, but when she said there was three it was just tears because I was thinking what are we going to do with three babies? But really it only took about a minute to be like okay we're going to have three babies so lets do it. But my husband was excited right from the start, from the first second we found out he was so stoked."

Diaz says when her older children found out it was a little bit of a different story.

"Well they have mixed feelings because the babies are super cute and lovable, they're super excited for them to get home because they're still in the hospital but the kids are kind of like, we are never going to be able to do anything, it's going to be so much work, and who wants three babies at the same time? But I know it'll be a lot of work but it's going to be a lot of fun too."

Diaz says it's quite funny because it's so uncommon one of the first questions she's asked is if the triplets were conceived spontaneously.

"Multiples are really common these days because how many people are using fertility drugs or going through IVF and so that's the first thing the ultrasound tech asked me was were you taking any fertility drugs and I was like I already have four kids! Clearly I am fertile."

The odds of having spontaneous triplets is one in eight thousand.

The triplets are currently still in the hospital but doing very well and should be home within the next week.

Diaz says she wouldn't have her family any other way,  "I come from a big family, so that's what I like and that's what I am comfortable with, and lots of people say oh my gosh even with four kids people were like whoa that's busy but I don't know, to me it feels normal and I love that my kids have lots of siblings and it's a lot of fun."
