The process has already begun in Alberta as a handful of the 25,000 Syrian refugees have already landed in Calgary to begin new lives after fleeing their home country engulfed in never ending conflict.

But out of the refugees coming to Canada, how many could call Okotoks home?

Community Wellness Manager Debbie Posey says if needed, Okotoks could house refugees.

"Okotoks is such a caring and connected community, we already have Foothills Community Immigrant Services here which is provided by Calgary Catholic Immigration and so we have settlement services available and I think we would be ready," she says.

Posey says she's had a few calls come her way when it comes the refugee situation.

"It's really heartwarming because every single caller has asked 'What we can do? Is there a place to donate? Can we help to bring Syrian refugees here?' I think it is absolutely wonderful for Okotoks to have that kind of a response."

Posey says you can help the refugees by offering a leg up on their new start in Canada.

"Please donate to Calgary Catholic Immigration or Red Cross or one of the other agencies that are actively involved with supporting the government sponsored refugees," she says.

An information seminar will be held on Thursday in Okotoks.
