The Town of Okotoks has had it's issues of vandalism in the past but a discovery in October have public officials scratching their heads.

Very minor damage was caused to a couple of grave sites at the Okotoks Cemetery but still asks the question as to why?

Parks Manager for the Town Christa Michailuck says its something they don't see everyday.

"Very unusual for us to find any vandalism at the cemeteries, so we were surprised and disappointed to find that there was some this year, I believe it was perhaps the evening of Halloween or a night in and around there," she says.

Michailuck says the Town has already repaired the damaged caused.

"It was noticed that some headstones were knocked over in two different locations in the older sections of the cemetery, so it wasn't noticed right away because they're not the most frequented sections especially at this time of the year with less ground maintenance happening out there.

The cost amount of damage to the effected head stones is minimal but the ramifications behind the vandalism is troubling says Michailuck.

"It was more of a culturally unacceptable place for that to happen, I think more people were upset about that then the actual damage being hard to repair."

If you do see monuments at cemeteries are vandalized you're asked to call the Town and notify them of the damages.
