A young Okotoks resident has taken getting a summer job to the next level.

Adele Colbert, 12, started her dog poop pick-up company "Backyard Landmine Removal" at the end of February, and since then it has taken off.

Colbert now has regular costumers and feels accomplished from what she has done.

"The best part is the pride that I have in myself, and seeing people happy makes me happy," Colbert says.

Colbert's dad, John Colbert, says he is proud of what his daughter has done and how she has paid for her promoting material herself.

Colbert has gotten refrigerator magnets and business cards to promote her company, along with company t-shirts for her and her brother Brody, who helps her out on the bigger jobs.

With her company taking off, Colbert wants to give back to the community and donates her time to pick up people's pet waste who have troubles doing it themselves and can't afford to pay someone to do it for them.

"The Okotoks Rant and Rave site has helped promote my businesses out in the community, so I decided I wanted to give back to the people who have helped me," she says.

Colbert and her family talked about a job they did out in High River for an elderly lady who asked Colbert to pick up the pine cones in her yard along with the dog waste.

They said they all pitched together to help clean up the yard and it was one of the jobs Colbert did for free.

Colbert started doing the jobs as a way to make some money to pay for a school trip in the spring, and now walks down her community walkways thinking she is going to go out there and clean them up.

She says when she started the company, her friends thought it was silly.

"They thought I probably would only make $20 off of it and not do much else, but then it took off," Colbert says.

She says now they even ask if she needs help.
