Continuing a dream for a Canadian legend in Okotoks.

The annual Terry Fox run took place in town on Sunday.

Runners and walkers gathered together at the Crystal Shores Beach house with a common goal in mind, to support those who have suffered from Cancer.

Okotoks Terry Fox run organizer Sherry Heron says it was Terry Fox's hope that people would continue what he started.

"At the point where he'd lost his leg to cancer, he decided to run across Canada in honor of those he'd left behind still suffering in the hospitals." Heron adds "It was his dream to find a cure and raise awareness and funds, we're here to continue that dream."

Heron says while there are some who participate to support a common goal, she finds most of those joining the Okotoks run are cancer survivors or have been affected by the disease in some way.

"I've been doing this for 5 years now and over time you start to recognize the families and those who have survived and those who are running for others. Most people who do the run, are running for someone."

Nearly 250 people participated in our local run, raising a combined total of $4500 for cancer research and treatment.

According to the Terry Fox Foundation, over $750 Million has been raised in Terry Fox runs across the country to date.
