The times are changing when it comes to managing a junior hockey team with the increased number of costs and economic uncertainty which has lead to the Okotoks Oilers changing the way they operate.

Soon the not for profit organization will open up more spots in their board of directors as they've started the process of calling on willing and capable members of the community to throw their hat into the ring and be on the board.

Oilers President Wayne Lauinger says they're open to anyone with the capabilities of helping the team not just grow financially but also it's community image.

"We will be hopefully having some people interested in stepping up," he says. "People who can offer something in terms of the skills they have and the placements they have that can help the Oilers move forward."

The team reported earlier in the season that they were operating at a large deficit and the turn in the Alberta economy has made it worse.

Lauinger says any idea is worth exploring by future members of the board along with those just wanting to volunteer their time with team operations.

"If they have the skills it's going to take and the time we encourage them to fill out an application and get on the board and come up with some great ideas."
