Nanton Mayor Rick Everett says residents told him and council the idea of a bus from Nanton to Calgary was a nice idea, but one they wouldn't use because of the limited times it would run. Photo - Russell Skeet.

Don't expect to be taking regional transportation from Nanton anytime soon.

Mayor Rick Everett says Council has some bad news for the Calgary Regional Partnership when it comes to public transit.

"Council made the decision on Monday night not to join the regional transportation system, we defeated the motion to take part in the two year pilot project."

Everett says it came down to being the first on and last off the bus that had the public telling council it wouldn't get a lot of use.

The plan was to have the bus leave Nanton at 5:30 in the morning, with the return trip at 6:30 at night.

He says if there had been provision for a couple more buses at different times of day it might have flown.

He says while it's "No for now" it's not "No" forever as future growth in the region may change the minds of future councils.
