The Okotoks Fire Department and Okotoks RCMP responded to a call from the Cactus Club Salon and Spa in Okotoks this afternoon, and clients and employees were quickly allowed back into the building after no fire or smoke was detected.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says the call came in at 12:55 p.m. Thursday.

"When crews arrived, there was nothing showing," he explains. "Upon entry, there was no smoke or flames. They had a report of a very light smoke in one of the electrical rooms.  When crews did an assessment of not only that room, but the building, nothing was found."

Thevenot says crews used thermal imaging cameras to check walls, electrical panels and other heat sources, including appliances that may have been used in the building.

As a precaution, the building was evacuated upon the fire department's arrival, but he says they were able to conduct their assessment quickly and everyone was allowed back inside and out of the cold.

Thevenot says it's always a good idea to call, if it's suspected that something could be wrong.

"That's why we're here," he says. "We can come over and check it out, just to ensure that there is nothing wrong. We have some special tools that we use, with our thermal imaging cameras being one, and not only that, but with the experience of our crews and the training that we do have, we can possibly find some indicators that may lead into some trouble, so we can address those issues when we come across them."
