The Alberta Teachers' Association and the Teachers' Employer Bargaining Association has reached a new agreement.

While teachers won't be getting a raise a one time grant of $75-million will be used through out the province will be used to improve classroom conditions.

Drew Chipman,  Assistant Superintendent of Corporate Services with the Foothills School Division, says they need to meet with the local ATA group to decide how to spend the money.

The teachers will have a say on things like hiring more teachers, support staff, hosting professional development to address students needs and purchasing classroom equipment and materials.

"We need to come to a consensuses on what that will look like and how that money will get spent," said Chipman. "It is a one time grant, so the dollars are only available for next year, and that's if we are able come to an agreement on how to spend them. I am sure that we will be able to work together come to an agreement."

Another big change will be keeping track of teachers maximum number of assignable teachers hours in the classrooms.

Chipman says they are still figuring out the best way to manage that.
