The highly anticipated new Operations Centre is now home to many Town of Okotoks departments.

The new Operations Centre opened in October and houses the Infrastructure and Operations branch which consists of parks, transportation, waste services and facilities management teams.

Town of Okotoks operations project coordinator Jamie Greenshields says it's really convenient having these departments under one roof.

"Having all Infrastructure and Operations teams in one facility has significantly assisted with communications, planning and coordinating cross functional activities across the Operations branch."

Greenshields says the addition of the new facility has helped with past storage problems as well.

"With the opening of the new fleet storage building it's freed up some desperately needed space in the Operations Shop building which has led to more efficient and timely repairs to the Town's fleet and equipment. "

Programs are also being ran out of the New Operations Centre, Melanie Heemeryck, communications administrator for the town says the Living Soil Filtration Project is one of them.

"Part of the centre will also be dedicated towards an Environmental Education Centre that will serve as an interpretive centre and classroom for PhD students working on this Living Soil Filtration Project, as well as youth and general education for water conservation and other environmental stewardship matters."

Though the centre is now open to the public a grand opening celebration for the building is planned for the Spring of 2017.
