The Federal Government committed nearly $270 million to cyber security and fighting cyber crime in the budget Tuesday, February 27.

Vulcan's David Swan, the Director of the Canadian Cyber Intelligence Defence Centre says it's too little, too late.

"It's a start, and for a start it's OK. But they obviously haven't looked across the border at the what the FBI went through in the United States and how American laws are now being written and how they've evolved over the last three to five years. It's really more half baked than it needs to be."

He says it's not clear how both the RCMP and newly created Canadian Centre for Cyber Security will go about protecting the government and Canadian businesses from hackers.

Overall Finance Minister Bill Morneau and the Liberal Government is giving $155.2 million over five year for the new Canadian Centre for Cyber Security and a further $116 million to the RCMP to create a Cybercrime Co-ordination Unit.
