The Okotoks and District Chamber of Commerce is preparing for its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

With the start of 2018 will come a new board of directors for the chamber, who will be appointed at the AGM.

Jayme Hall, Executive Director of the Okotoks Chamber, says there will be an election style selection process for the board of directors this year.

"We had more nominations come in, people that are interested in being on the Chamber Board of Directors than there are spots available. There's 12 spots left to fill and I believe we have about 15 nominations in to fill those spots, so the membership is going to get an opportunity to vote at the AGM, every member attending gets a vote for their business."

Hall says the amount of interest shown from individuals wanting to represent the business community is a positive for the organization.

"When you have more people than spots to fill that have put their names forward to say they want to be involved with this organization, I think that's really good. I think that shows the strength of the organization, and the interest there is in the Chamber of Commerce here in Okotoks."

Along with appointments to the board of directors will come different standing reports and updates on the chamber's 2017.

"We're also going to be chatting about some things we have coming up in the near future this year, of course we're going to be chatting about our trade show which is coming up in April. It's just a good overview on what the past 12 months at the Chamber of Commerce has looked like, and where we're heading as well in 2018."

The AGM will be held at Crystal Ridge Golf Course, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
