A new ball diamond is in the works as the town starts construction on Lauden Park this week.

After the 2013 flood deemed the Spoiler Field ball diamond unplayable the town decided it was time for a replacement.

Municipal Engineer Marley Oness says the summer project is funded by flood mitigation money.

"So it's the building of a new ball diamond to replace the ball diamond we lost in Sheep River Park. It's a replacement of what they called the Spoilers Field and the construction of the ball diamond itself is funded through the Disaster Recovery Program through flood mitigation money."

Oness says the new park will also include some other features.

"Essentially its a ball diamond but there are some pathways that are going to go into the area as well. So it will be a nice little walking amenity for folks that want to follow the pathway system off to that end of town."

Though the area will include pathways, additional plantings and a parking lot the funding won't cover any ball diamond accessories such as a scoreboard, field lighting, bases, etc.

The project will cause some disruption to residents in the Mountain View area but the neighborhoods have been approached about access in that area and will continue to be updated through the construction period.

Luden Park construction is projected to be finished by fall of this year, weather permitting.
