After a successful year the McBride Career Group Youth Links Program is making a comeback for it's second year in Okotoks.

The federally funded program works with employers and youth to help 15 to 30 year olds transition into the work force.

Cam Burbank, Job Coach and Case Manager for the program, says within the program youth gain work skills and a possible job placement.

"Through the program they compensate the employer nine dollars an hour, so it's some incentive for these employers to bring these people on board. And then ultimately  we are looking for them to train the individuals and give them the transferable skills and either place them at that work or to use that experience for a way to open up doors to other employment opportunities."

Within the three month program before the work experience starts job coaches help with resumes, interview skills, employer communication and discuss how to handle issues or conflict in the work place.

Burbank says they always have a variety of entry level jobs to choose from but it's his job to see what job might be the best fit.

"In terms of the kinds of positions it can be anything. Last time we placed some people in retail, we placed some in landscaping, it really just depends. But part of my job is to find out who the people are and what they are looking for and try to match those skills."

Many people in the youth category can qualify for this program, Burbank says, typically it's anyone that has potential barriers.

"Maybe it's single moms, it could be a combination of poor work history or just not enough experience or maybe they don't have access to a vehicle...anything like that."

The youth links program are looking for committed youth, the only exception being anyone that plans on going to school in the fall may not qualify for the program as most employers are looking for full time positions in most cases.
