The Town of Nanton is like a house with its finances in order.

During their last meeting Council patted themselves on the back over the new heights their reserves have climbed to.

For a town of just over 2,000 people, Mayor Rick Everett says they're pretty proud to have around 3.4 million dollars and climbing in the bank.

"We think having reserves is absolutely critical. In the event of an emergency we don't want to be running around to find money again. It's there, and we keep putting money into it, and we had a great 2015 and with the sales of some residential lots we were able to pay off one of our debentures which was about $500,000"

Everett says that will save the Town $117,000 in payments, which he says will be used for other projects and make it easier for the Town to reduce tax hikes in 2016.
