What are some things that can be done in three hours?

One could cook a 14 pound turkey, assemble something from Ikea, or take a train to Paris from London in three hours.

Nanton's Andrea Glover ran the Calgary Marathon in 3 hours, 2 minutes and 14 seconds and won the race out of 307 other women.

Glover says she had two goals going into the Sunday marathon and accomplished one of them.

"My main goal was...to do the race under three hours and my second goal was I wanted to place in the top three. So I reached one of those two and I am super happy about that because I never really expected that I could win the Calgary Marathon. So I will have to go for a personal best next time."

The local runner was running 50 to 55 miles a week and was resting three out of the seven days to train for the event.

Glover averaged about 4 minutes and 19 and a half seconds every kilometer in the marathon and says it's a long race but she's glad she got it done.

"When I crossed the finish line I was overwhelmed...it's a long race so I was just really trying to maintain my pace and finish it strong and I didn't really let winning it cross my mind until I crossed that finish line because anything can happen so that was just a huge relief and pretty exciting."

In the end Glover placed 14th overall but wasn't the only person from Nanton to complete the 42.2km race.

Chris Koch, a man born without arms or legs finished the race in 4 hours 28 minutes and 38 seconds on his long board.

Glover says she was proud to see fellow Nantonite and friend Chris Koch finish the event.

"So he was there and we chatted and I got a picture with him and I was just so amazed with his accomplishment it was unbelievable. I was just so proud of him and it was just really cool, I said to his mom after the race it was a pretty good showing for Nanton."

Up next Andrea plans on running in High River for Canada Day with her family, entering her favorite Melissa's Road Race in Banff and for her next marathon; something seaside.
