Okotoks celebrated Canada Day yesterday by hosting a multicultural festival at the Rec Centre.

Many guests and festival goers thought this was an interesting way to promote how diverse Canada and Canadians are.

Jennifer Wang and her family attended the festival because they are immigrants to Canada from China.

Wang says they're now permanent residents of the True North.  They moved here nearly four years ago.

"I moved from China, I have been here for 4.5 years now.  I moved to Okotoks three years ago and I love this town!" Wang adds that her main reason for the move was a better education for her son. "We were looking for a house and thought this town was very pretty and the people were very nice.  Everything is perfect like the schools, shopping centres, education it's all perfect."

Wang, like many others wanted a better life for her family and made the necessary sacrifices to get it.

She says she followed her family here, after seeing how great Canada treated them.

"Actually, my youngest sister moved here about a year before us, and she told me that we should look into Okotoks, that it was a very nice place to live."

Multicultural Fest featured 12 different ethnicities, and provided food, dance and entertainment from each.

A wonderful look at everything that makes Canada, our home and native land.
