The High River branch of the Royal Canadian Legion stepped up again Tuesday with a donation of $5,000 for the Meals On Wheels program.

The president of Meals On Wheels, Jan Noad, says it'll go a long way to help them provide meals to seniors and shut-in's.

"This $5,000 donation is just amazing," she says. "Meals On Wheels in High River is one of the few organizations around Alberta that subsidizes each meal. So far this year we have delivered 2,450 meals, last year it was over 4,000."

Noad says the High River Hospital makes the meals according to Alberta Health Serves standards and even tailors the meals according to clients wants and needs as far as allergies to certain foods.

She says the cost of the meals has gone up, the first time it's increased in seven years.

After the flood the group didn't receive any donations for over two years and they became desperate but then all of a sudden different groups and organizations have been coming through to help them out.
