High River is continuing its comeback.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says there is business activity going on including a new Pizza Hut going downtown.

"I'm really interested to see how they're doing that because they're taking a real creative and innovative way of looking at how they're going to operate that restaurant with the new streetscapes," he says. "They love the way our downtown looks and they kind of get into it, 'how can we change our business to really thrive down here right?'"

Snodgrass says usually the area around a business adapts but this time it's the other way around.

He says all of the changes that have happened have affected some businesses.

"You know when you do mass scale change at this level the reality is there's going to be attrition to what was there before, businesses are going to choose just to leave, and businesses are going to choose to relocate elsewhere and that's fine," Snodgrass says. "I think that's great, you've got to do what you feel is right for your business, but at the same time it opens the door to other business that want to be down there."

He says there's also more activity planned around the Canadian Tire and the new provincial building will be finished in the new year.
