As the book closes on the 42nd election in Canadian history, there were plenty of choices on the ballot for the Foothills riding.

John Barlow took the riding with over 75% of the popular vote with the Liberals and NDP behind in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Liberal candidate Tanya MacPherson took the loss with grace and wishes the best for Barlow.

"I want to congratulate John and I want to thank him very much for running and for all of the forums," she says. "We had a great time and everyone said he was a nice guy and I'm just very happy for him."

With her Liberals forming a majority government, she says the Liberals won't forget about the west.

"I'm sure we're going to have representation in Alberta," she says. "So the Foothills will hopefully have strong representation."

With a riding that's been traditionally Conservative for decades, MacPherson says she was met with a lot of support from going door-to-door during her 11 week campaign.

"People were very nice on the doors, and there was only the very, very occasional comment that's all, for the most part people were quite open and listening and I found a lot of openness on the doors."
