The Village of Longview was the big winner this year in the annual Earth Hour challenge.

Earth Hour took place Saturday March 25, from 8:30 – 9:30 p.m. and 29 communities within FortisAlberta’s service territory took part.

Longview receives $5,000 for first place for its 31% decrease in consumption.

Second place went to the Village of Barons which receives a $2,500 grant for its 13% decrease in consumption while third place went to  the Town of Mayerthorpe which gets $1,500 for lowering its energy use by 11%.

The winner was determined by comparing electricity consumption during earth hour last weekend compared to what they used during the same hour on the previous Saturday.
