A pair of sisters from the Longview area are headed to Rock Springs Wyoming to compete in the National High School Finals Rodeo.

Nevada Nelson, and her sister Jade, will be competing in the NRA Light Rifle competitions.

Nevada, who just wrapped up Grade 11, says she's been doing it a long time..

"I've been in rodeo since, well, when I was little, probably five or six was my first rodeo, I've been riding my whole life."

She says her father is a guide and so the family gone out hunting for years and she feels it's "really cool".

About 1,500 competitors will be in Wyoming for the event, coming from all over the United States, Canada and Australia.

She'll also be competing in the Rodeo Queen competition as the newly-crowned Alberta High School Rodeo Queen.

Besides competing for more than $200,000 in prizes, athletes will also be competing for more than $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be crowned NHSFR Champion.

The finals go July 12 to 18.
