The Foothills has lost one of their last remaining World War II Veterans with the passing of Bragg Creek's Tony Iati.

The North Bay, Ontario native passed away last week at the age of 96.

Iati lied about his age joining the Canadian Army when he was just 17 years old, fighting on D-Day and right through into the Germany at the end of the war.

His son-in-law John Patton says the Turner Valley Legion turned out in force at his funeral Sunday giving the decorated veteran a proper send-off.

"There wasn't a dry eye in the house when the Legion members went up to Dad's urn and saluted and placed a poppy there."

Iati, moved with his family to Bragg Creek back in 1995 after spending most of his life in Ontario.

Patton says one of Iati's final wishes was to have his remains left in Bragg Creek and not returned to his family's plot in North Bay.

Patton says his father-in-law worked tirelessly to get funding for the Cenotaph that stands in Bragg Creek today.

Russell Skeet had the chance to talk to Iati for Remembrace Day in 2013, you can find the video below.
