Playoffs are right around the corner but one local hockey team already got the news of a provincial appearance.

The Okotoks Midget 'AA' Black team will be preparing for provincials as they were selected to host this seasons championship that will take place at the end of the month.

Co-chair for the teams provincial committee, Shawn Bailer says the committee is focusing on two components while preparing for the tournament.

"Well probably the two most important things are raising the necessary funds to pay for the ice, the referees, the banquets and all the other expenses that will occur. Number two is coming up with the volunteer base to make the event a success."

Bailer says they have a ton of help from the players parents but would love to get another 10-12 volunteers from the community to get involved, especially for the team host positions.

"The one position we are really looking to do is having hosts for each team. So we have a team host that would look after the four different teams that are from outside the community of Okotoks, so they can help out in anything they might need in regards of getting things done while they are staying here in Okotoks."

On top of volunteers, the team is hoping to have a sturdy fan base during provincials to help cheer them on to a gold.

Bailer says the Midget 'AA' Black team hopes to achieve that by visiting local schools until the big tournament.

"Players are going to be going to the schools and if it's elementary they'll be doing more of a reading program. in some of the other schools maybe doing some athletics like ball hockey with the other students or teachers, just to get a little bit of interest going in regards of provincials coming to town at the end of the month."

The provincials play down goes from March 30 until April 2.
