A young De Winton girl and her horse are taking on the best of the best in Denver this week.

17-year-old Anna Timm is competing in the North American Junior and Young Rider Championship: an equestrian competition for riders under the age of 21.

Timm says a lot of preparation goes into an event like this.

"We get one day off a week, other than that we train every day. We jump three times a week and we competed up until a week ago to get ready for the event."

The competition has three main events: show jumping, dressage and eventing.

The show jumper and her horse Chepetto have been building their relationship this season, but says she feels good going into this show.

"I took us a while to get in sync...but we've managed to get quite a companionship going and now we trust each other. I know every time I go up to a jump he will jump it and he knows I will try to get him to the right distance every time and he tries his heart out for me, so that's good."

Timm says when she returns the next thing on her agenda will be preparing for her next big competition.

"I hope to go back to the NAJYRC next year but the next big show I'll be doing is the Masters in September at Spruce Meadows so I'll be preparing for that when I get back...but my hope for one day like any athlete is to jump at the Olympic level."

The championships go from July 25 to July 31.
