As the legalization of Cannabis comes closer to fruition, the Governance and Priorities Committee has made recommendations to council regarding bylaws for odours and public safety.

Aaron Gallant, owner of Total Health Cannex in Okotoks, says educating residents is of great importance as legislation moves forward.

"I think the more education people have, they will make better decisions in regards to use. People make bad choices mostly due to lack of information," he said.

The recommendations are to go before town council for approval towards the end of June and are to encompass smoking, vaping and cannabis odours, as well as use in public spaces.

Gallant says the clinic is about total family health, and educating the public as a whole to remove the stigma commonly associated with cannabis.

"What we are trying to do is have families that are willing to come in here together, and have more information to take to away. To me the most important thing is health within the family," he said.

Gallant says there has never been a case of an over dose in relation to cannabis, but there have been many cases of health improvement, including children with severe neurological disorders.
