A local woman's art will be featured on the 41st Annual Hampton Classic Horse Show poster.

Nanton's Shannon Lawlor has been an artist full time for the past 11 years and is inspired by what her life is rich of; horses.

The equine artist says she created 'Flexible Soul' back in December of 2015 after seeing the horse and then submitted her work to the Hampton Classic poster art competition.

"I submitted the painting to the Hampton Classic Horse Show which is on Long Island in New York and I am the first Canadian to win the poster competition and be awarded this. It's a very coveted title so I am thrilled about the opportunity and especially that they chose Flexible."

Lawlor says she had the privilege of watching Flexible for the first time at the Masters Tournament in Langley BC.

"I was able to photograph some world class jumping horses in action... I took hundreds of photos that week...and then I captured this Flexible horse, he is a 20 year old Irish sport horse that is still competing and still winning at an international level... he was so soulful looking away into the distance before entering the ring and I knew it was one of the best pictures I took in the whole time I was there."

Not only is the Olympic Show horse still winning but Lawlor says this is a huge win for her as well.

"At this point there is no doubt that the Hampton Classic poster is the big one for me. It's a really big deal in the equestrian world so I'm very humbled by being accepted into that level of competition...it's a big feather in my cap."

Out of 80 artists across North America Lawlor's artwork came out on top.

Lawlor does plan on attending the event and will bring 'Flexible Soul' with her, she says, "because of the weight Flexible holds and him being so popular it will be interesting to see who will step up first to acquire this painting."

The Hampton Classic runs from August 28th to September 4th.
