Literacy Week has been a "best seller" for students at Big Rock School in Okotoks.

The week long event acknowledges the important of literacy in everyday life.

All week students have been read to by local celebs and learning how literacy is important in their careers.

Laurie Adams, Literacy Week volunteer at Big Rock, says there's been a great deal of support.

"It's so awesome to see the community spirit. We get so many volunteers willing to come in and talk to the kids, share their experiences, and read with the kids. It's been a fabulous week."

Adams says the initiative has been well received.

"The kids get really excited about it and they have lots of fun. We have everybody from the Stampede princesses, the radio station, to people working in the community for any local job and the kids get really excited to learn about how literacy helps them in their job."

Students will wrap up the week on Friday with a concert from local musician Tanya Ryan.
