Visitors to the Wizarding World of Okotoks at the end of this month will have a chance to take an imaginary stroll through the halls of Hogwarts Castle.

Okotoks Public Library staff will be working their magic to tranform the library into the legendary castle from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series.

Alexandra Mannix, teen librarian, says they've got lots of activities in store for guests that day.

"First, we'll have a map of the library so they can see where the different stations are," Mannix explains. "We're going to have herbology class, so they can do some fun things there, we're going to have the great hall, a potions class, a divinations class and even Muggle studies."

Mannix points out that the Harry Potter book series seems to have been increasing in popularity in recent years. She says that's because the books appear to have a multi-generational appeal.

"I think that they are almost more popular than they were before," she says. "Everyone that grew up with Harry Potter, the books and the movies is enjoying the new movies and the new books that are being put out and also introducing it to their siblings, maybe a younger audience or maybe they have kids now that they want to read the books to."

Mannix says there will be Harry Potter-themed activity stations, prizes awarded and they are also planning to feature a raffle of Harry Potter-related items.

The Wizarding World of Okotoks, presented by the Okotoks Arts Council, will take place on Saturday, October 28.
