It's tough enough on us trying to get through the winter without freezing, but what about small birds and other wild animals?

Local bird expert Greg Wagner says there's one sure fire way of helping out our fine feathered friends when the mercury drops.

"One thing that we have noticed as a trend across North America is with feeders. And having feeders around just how much that's supported a lot of winter birds. Getting sunflower seeds in them, that high energy source really enables them to endure winter that much better."

Wagner says smaller birds seem to do alright as long as they can find food, but he says many still don't make it through the winter.
