Becoming "Financially Literate" is something that needs to be taught to our children.

Timmi Shore with Junior Achievement Alberta says she's seeing a really disconnect, in kids and young adults when it comes to money thanks to the increased use of credit and debit cards, which she says doesn't make money seem so "real."

She says it's a subject parents need to address with their kids.

"I find money's kind of like sex. People don't like to talk about it. Whether they're not doing a good job of it, or they didn't really know themselves. It's something that the conversation has to start somewhere and families really have to get together and talk about how they're managing their money and set an example for their children."

She says the old time notion of "learning the value of a dollar" is still very important in today's world.

Shore, spends a lot of time in Foothills schools, and just wrapped up Financial Literacy Month with a series to talks at Notre Dame Collegiate in High River.

She says they get a bunch of local's stepping up to volunteer, which she says she's very grateful for, as they couldn't put on the amount of programs they do without them.
