The Town of High River's Heritage Inventory Project is nearing its final stage.

Parks and Culture Coordinator for the Town Sarah Mitchell says an open house will be held later this month for residents to give more information or past histories of the homes on their list.

"We asked for more information about each property and then with that information, as well as some rigorous evaluation that we go through with our consultants and the Heritage Advisory Board, we narrowed that rather extensive list of properties, that was about 63 or so, now we've got 21," Mitchell says.

Home owners that receive a Statement of Significance for their home can apply for municipal heritage designation which can make them eligible for grants.

"[Statement of Significance] outlines the history of, particularly the early history of the residence, perhaps who built it, who were the original owners, what their significance was to the early community and then it also gets into the character defining elements of the home, why that home included on that list," she says. "It could be unique architectural features on that property that aren't really found anywhere else in town or are uncommon for the area."

The open house goes Wed. Oct. 28 at the Heritage Inn from 5 to 8 p.m.
