The 21st Annual Leadership Awards were held at D'arcy Ranch Wednesday night  and four ladies were recognized for their excellence in exhibiting leadership.

The Leaders of Tomorrow Awards were awarded to exceptional youth volunteers currently in school recognized for their commitment, energy, leadership and character.

Senior High Recipient Gabby Gibbs says she gets much more out of volunteering then what she could ever put into it.

"It's always to give something to someone else but somehow you always leave with something more. When I was in Ecuador meeting the children there, they don't know what a school is but somehow they are teaching you more about life and about love that you could ever learn in a classroom. It's all about the people you meet along the way, volunteering is one of those special things that gives you so much for the little amount of time and love you put into it."

Gibbs was recognized for her volunteer efforts that included: being the President of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, volunteering with Salvation Army, the Okotoks Food Bank and being a youth leader on her volunteer trip to Ecuador.

Emily Penzo received the Junior High Award for her countless acts of giving back to the community by volunteering at Gus's Day Diggs, as a Girls Guide Pathfinder, a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters and so much more.

Mya Jones was awarded the Elementary Award for her leadership skills and ability to include everyone within her school, as well as leading and organizing Operation Christmas Child at Big Rock School and many other acts of kindness.

The Heart of Okotoks Award was received by Marg Cox who was praised for her passion and commitment to create a healthy and vibrant community.

Cox says it's the town that pushes her to constantly give back.

"I love the community and I love to give back, that's always been my mandate and like I said that feeling of belonging keeps you inspired so I think for all these years that has kept me going. Because I've been inspired by many, many people and I certainly feel a real sense of belonging in this community. I am happy and proud!"

Mayor Bill Robertson says it's wonderful to see so many great role models within the community.

"It's awesome to recognize the talent and all the contributions that people make. And they serve as excellent role models for other young people who are perhaps thinking about volunteering...and not only how they help people but what they get out of it themselves its just absolutely awesome. It's a great day to be an Okotokian."

An honourable mention was also given to Senior High student Katelyn Knierim for her outstanding volunteer and leadership accomplishments.

The Rotary Club and Town of Okotoks congratulate the award winners and all the nominees for the wonderful work they are doing.
