February is the month for love, heart health awareness and also the month for compassion.

International Act of Kindness Day took place on Feb. 17th, but for the Kinsmen Clubs throughout Canada, one day wasn't enough.

The Kinsmen Club's National Day of KINdness took place yesterday.

The club in Okotoks participated by partnering up with KC's Eatery at the Rec Centre and handed out free Hot Chocolate to those who needed a pick me up in a busy day of activity and sport.

Acting President for the Okotoks Club Pete Lawson says they hope the community enjoyed it and thanked KC's Eatery for their act of kindness to the club.

"Well the idea is to do something nice for somebody else and have them pass it on, so we came up with the idea of a little free hot chocolate graciously donated to us by Karl Chan of KC's Eatery." Lawson says "Hopefully people will try to pass it on and do something kind for somebody else."

This is the first time that the Okotoks Chapter of the Kinsmen Club has participated in the Kinsmen National Day of KINdness.

Lawson says they ran out of Hot Chocolate within 90 minutes, so they're already planning next years event.

"We've already got the ball rolling, with the support of KC's Eatery and anybody else who wants to help us participate, we're always there to do something nice for somebody else because the fun is in the giving."

While this may have been our club's first time, they've been active elsewhere in the community since 1980.

"We've been around since 1980, and fundraising has always been our goal." Lawson adds "So we can help out projects like the Food Bank, and starting other projects like the Community Garden, and the Farmer's Market which was another one that we helped get off the ground."

Lawson says they Kinsmen Club will be around for many years to come having fun with the community they care so much about.
