KidSport in Okotoks has seen a spike in usage as it continues to help support families and getting children active.

KidSport accepts gently used sports equipment and then gives it to families in need.

Shari Gustafson, chair of Kidsport Okotoks, says the organization helps families with a number of extra curriculars.

"It's been a very busy season with hockey, football, dance, soccer... there's a number of sports, especially even martial arts, that we're helping a lot of families with right now."

Gustafson says the organization funds up to $600 per child, per family.

"It's used to cover sports fees," she says. "This is just a small part of the cost of sport obviously with registration fees, uniforms, equipment, sometimes travel or food costs, so we help with a portion of what families encounter with putting their child in sport."

Gently used sports equipment donations can be dropped off at Okotoks Ford Lincoln. From there, the equipment is taken to Comrie's Sports Equipment Bank in Calgary where it's cleaned and repaired before being distributed out to families for use.
