Hot on the heels of Brian Jean Thursday, United Conservative Leadership candidate Jason Kenney blew into High River Friday.

Kenney gave one indication of why the candidates are stopping by just a week before the leadership vote.

"I think we had about 80 people here and short notice on a Friday afternoon, so I'm really happy, great to see Scott Tannas and Grant Hill here," Kenney says. "This riding has has one of the largest memberships in the province for the United Conservatives, I think we're at about 2,500 members and it was about 98 per cent voting for unity here so we feel a strong energy for this new party here."

He says after 16 months of campaigning for the P.C. leadership and now the U.C.P leadership, he's looking forward to it all being over.

When he was in the town Thursday Brian Jean said one advantage he had over the other candidates is that he already has a seat in the legislature.

Kenney says that's not a big deal.

"We have a good team in the legislature, if I'm elected leader I'll pursue a seat in the legislature when a seat becomes available," he says. "Frankly the heavy lifting is going to be outside the legislature building this new party, our grassroots policy process, candidate recruitment, our founding convention, election readiness, I don't want to get bogged down in a war of words with the socialists in the legislature, I don't think that's very productive."

Party members vote Saturday October 28, 2017.
