Kayben Farms has partnered up with the High View Animal Clinic to continue to keep their animals in tip top shape.

When an Okotoks animal practice no longer offered large animal practices they guided Kayben Farms to partner up with the clinic out of High River.

Co-owner of Kayben Farms, Judy Kolk says the Kayben Farm family are very excited for the recent collaboration.

"High View is going to come out and do regular health care checks on our animals and just glide us on the basic treatments we feel comfortable giving because my background as an animal health technician gives me some experience and some ability to do minor treatments here at the farm but then whenever there is something that's outside of our scope they'll come in and take care of the animals for us. So we are really excited about that."

High View Animal Clinic Vet and Co-owner Krista Gavel-Thiessen says general health checks are in order twice a year.

"We've formed a relationship so we can get some protocols in place and work on the health plans for all the animals on the farm...So right now we are planning on doing two general check ups a year on the animals and then if any problems arise we will deal with them when they happen."

General check ups include: observing eyes and teeth, checking the limbs for pain and lameness, as well as listening to the heart and lungs.

Kolk says it's critical to do these check ups because the well being of their animals is key to them.

"The health of our animals is very important to us. We've had them for a long time and they mean a lot to us and we want to see them thriving and doing really well."

The numerous farm animals at Kayben Farms including: the horses, miniature donkeys and two new lambs can now officially be visited as the farm opened May 1st.
