Friday was an exciting day for Okotoks community members as they were given a glimpse of the town's future.

Roger Brooks unveiled a new logo idea with the slogan "Join the innovation!". The brand would focus on innovation, technology, education, the environment, arts, and health and wellness.

Carrie Fischer, member of the brand team and town councillor, says it's been a thorough process dissecting the surveys residents completed for the project in the fall.

"Roger Brooks and his team say that's one of the best responses they've seen out of a community this size so it was great to see everybody pitch in but it was a lot to sift through and then we just narrowed it down," she says. "This week we've had a series of meetings, two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon that often ran long, just really focusing in and sharpening that."

Brooks shared some of the results from the submitted surveys. When asked "Why do you live in Okotoks?" the most common responses were small town atmosphere, proximity to Calgary, family (close by or great place to raise a family), and good schools/ education system.

Fischer says the next steps include putting together a brand leadership team.

"We'll really focus on doing the brand plan, honing in on any of these images we were presented today and making sure they're actually what we want it to be and then going forward with building that brand inside and outside the community, and targeting economic development and recruiting businesses."
