It Takes a Village Okotoks has received a boost from the Foothills Ladies Compassion Cup.

The FLCC is an annual Golf Tournament which was held Aug. 14 that supports local charities of their choosing.

Rachel Swendseid, President of It Takes A Village Okotoks says the organization is very thankful to be one of the chosen charities this year.

"They selected two local charities to donate the funds to, the portion that we got was $15,500 which is amazing and it has blown us away."

It Takes a Village is a non-profit which provides support to young Foothills families facing hardships with essential baby care items.

Swendseid says this donation will be divided into three It Takes A Village programs.

"It will go towards our new program we're starting called Mother Care Packages which includes things like nursing pads, sanitary pads, and the things that new moms need when they first have their baby. It will be going towards our Baby Sleep Safe program, so the donation will help provide new cribs for families in need in the Foothills. It will also go towards our Baby Box program, so purchasing things like diapers and wipes."

Swenseid shares because of the generosity of the donation the funds will go a long way as more people here about It Takes a Village, and as more agencies refer families to the organization.

"We're so appreciative, we're blown away, we just really want to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in it. There was so many women who were in it, the Turner Valley Golf Club who put it on, all the volunteers, and of course the Foothills Ladies Compassion Cup committee, which is a group of local women in the Foothills that do this every year and it's an amazing thing that they do."

Foothills Search and Rescue also received a donation from the 2017 Foothills Ladies Compassion Cup.
