The Possak Hampshire Academy of Irish Dance has a festive spring in their step.

The academy's Backbeat Irish Dancers will be entertaining guests for their annual Christmas performance at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre next weekend.

All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting their athletes.

Ali Hampshire, owner of the academy, says their performance is more amped up than traditional Irish dance.

"If you've ever seen River Dance or Lord of the Dance it's a take off of that," she explains. "It's a traditional art form but what we do in performance obviously has a little more flair, a little more drama to it, and is more tailored for an audience."

Hampshire says they alter their show each year.

"There is Christmas music incorporated in there with an Irish twist. This is our third year doing the Christmas show at RPAC so we like to change it up a little bit every year and keep it fresh and different because we do have returning patrons that come every year so we like to keep it a different show."

Show times for Dec. 2 take place at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the RPAC.
