The Dewdney Players are travelling back to the 1930s with their latest production The 39 Steps.

Director Tracy Wyman and her cast have worked tirelessly to keep the original elements of the production while adding their own flair.

Wyman says The 39 Steps began as a book which was brought to the big screen by Alfred Hitchcock.

"Years later a gentleman by the name of Patrick Barlow decided, yeah let's bring it to stage, and when he did he decided to keep all of the elements, the planes, trains, automobiles, love interests... hundreds of characters, and bring it all to stage and do it with a simple set and four actors."

She adds the performance will be "Hitchcock meets hilarious" with elements of Bugs Bunny, Carol Burnett, Keystone Cops, and Monty Python.

The Dewdney Players have a tie with the Keyano Theatre Company in Fort McMurray where a festival was to be held on the weekend of May 28 but with the recent wildfires that's no longer possible.

Wyman says the Dewdney Players will be showing their theatre family they've got their back by donating to the Canadian Red Cross.

"We know a lot of people in Fort McMurray, just as Albertans, then beyond that with our theatre family, they were going to be hosting the provincial One Act Festival and now they're unable to so, so the proceeds of our opening night will be going to help those folks in Fort Mac rebuild."

Media get a sneak peak of the performance Thursday night before it opens for the rest of the Foothills on Friday at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre.

Tickets are $20 for adults or $15 for students.
