The Town of High River felt the wrath of last night's thunderstorm and some residents will be without power for the next little while.

Spokesperson for Fortis Jennifer McGowan says crew are working diligently to get power back on.

"We have about 500 customers without power right now," she says. "It's due to a wire down in the area, we do have powerline technicians dispatched and they are in the process of making sure power gets back on, they're looking at around 2 p.m. to make that happen."

McGowan adds that the chain of lighting and thunderstorms that rolled through the area is the main cause of the outage.

Residents are reminded to be patient as crews work to fix the outage.
