The pool at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex will be closing for about two-and-a-half months for repairs.

Craig Stanley, the Town's Manager of Parks and Recreation, says they'll be upgrading critical components like the boiler, lights and tile work in the showers.

"Just to keep the centre current and operating efficiently and safely and to make sure the creature comforts are all working and the aquatic centre operates efficiently going forward," he says.

He says it's based on an assessment done last year and feedback from regular users of the facility.

There's even going to be a change made to the water.

"The salt water system that we use to inject chlorine into the pool as part of the disinfections system is becoming old and requiring some extensive regular maintenance," Stanley says. "That system is also slow to react to demands, so the more bathers, the more people that go into the pool, we require a higher flow of chlorine and so the existing system with its age and in-operability is being removed and replaced with a strictly chlorine system, so the salt water, which we use electrolysis to strip the chlorine off of the salt won't be required because we'll be adding chlorine directly to the water."

It'll close April 15 and will re-open in time for summer swim lessons and day camps on July 3.
