The staff at the High River Hospital are well known for offering state of the art Maternity Care,

The space in the building in which they offer the service - not so much.

That is about to change as The High River and District Health Care Foundation announced its latest fundraising project, Delivering a Better Experience, just in time for Mothers Day,

Michael Brown, executive director of the foundation says the patient care area in the maternity ward has small institutional type rooms that haven't been updated too much in the 30 plus years of its existence.

"What our vision is, is large spacious rooms, up to date technology, opportunity for tub labouring or delivering, and just make it a fabulous facility for all the young moms in the Foothills."

The project will cost $1.4 million dollars and the foundation is committed to raising $500,000 over two years, with the remaining money coming from reserve funds.

Currently the hospital has 360 births a year and they would like to have 600.

Dr. Gloria Mazloum says the changes are very exciting.

"It will allow us to bring our maternity unit up to current standards. The program here is very innovative in a lot of directions and very patient centred and this will allow us to have an environment that reflects how we do business," Mazloum said.

Mom Jennifer Penman has had four babies at the hospital said the experience was amazing.

"I just think they need the modern facility and they need space so they can work and we can stay in the modern times."
