A special night is planned in High River Friday May 13, to help raise money for a family going through some very difficult times.

Teegan Saxton, 17-years-old, says while in Mexico her mother, Erin, had to be rushed to hospital.

"She was rushed to the hospital and just as they got to the doors of the hospital she went into cardiac arrest," she says. "She was in hospital for two weeks and the medical expenses were over the roof and right now we don't know where insurance stands but we know that it's not going to cover all of it so that's what this fundraiser is all about, we're earning money for these medical costs."

Erin had previously suffered from cancer and kidney disease and went through a failed kidney transplant.

"I kind of want to have it as, every come and love each other because you don't know what tomorrow with bring and I didn't expect that, so I want that to be the message of this event," Saxton says.

The fundraiser at Highwood High School includes a family dance with a DJ, a silent auction and a bake sale going from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
